It seems that everywhere around us things are changing at an awfully fast rate. The major contributing factor to all of the change seems to be the increase in the number of individuals who reside in the United States. With the rise in numbers in the population, the cities are spreading out farther from the heart of the city. As the city areas grow, increasingly more of the population expands in to the rural areas. Soon development follows the population and rural areas turn into small towns. Increasingly less land is being utilized for farming; instead it's being developed into housing.

A few years ago my husband and I noticed that wealthy people were buying up lots on lakes. They would locate cottages for sale along the lakes area and would tear down the cottage and replace it with a gigantic new structure. We noticed numerous smaller lakes that we liked fishing on were suddenly surrounded by gigantic homes. One lake in specific we noticed this occurring on. The large homes took away the north woods atmosphere from the lake. My husband and I had discussed finding cottages on the market which we could fix up and have as a get away. We decided that the way properties were selling we had better make our move for cottages for sale while there were still a few available.

You see, years before we had gone through a similar situation in the beach city of Santa Barbara. For many years, we vacationed there and stayed in Santa Barbara hotels. We noticed people renting cottages rather than stay in the rather expensive Santa Barbara hotels, and decided to investigate a cottage rental to stay away from paying steep rates at these Santa Barbara hotels. Well, seeking to rent a cottage turned into wanting to purchase, however, we hesitated too long and the market took off, with prices rising out of our range. We vowed never to make the exact same mistake again.

We decided one Saturday afternoon to go out for a drive around two lakes that we have always enjoyed. One of the lakes is quite large and the other was littler, but there is a channel that goes from this small lake into a larger lake. A good portion of this lake and the outlying area were in a state park. We had been cross country snow-skiing in the state park during the winter's months and we had observed that there were several privately owned cabins next to the state land. We commented on how private the area was. We went back to the area to see if anything was available to buy. We turned down one small road that we had not ever been on before. The road led to what had been a little resort. There were signs listing cottages on the market. The resort had been closed for quite a few years. Most of the buildings were in need of repairs. Two of the cottages on the market had been updated within the past six or seven years. The cottages were close to the edge of the lake and were surrounded by pine trees. It was an awfully lovely setting, but we were concerned about who would perform the upkeep on the road when it snowed. We're still looking at cottages for sale. I am aware that it's only a matter of some time before we find the ideal place for us.
